Hello, my lovely bookish friend!!!
Welcome back to my little bookish corner of the internet where I talk all things books.Â
Last week, I talked about how I’ve been struggling to read these days. But this week, I did manage to read one short story– The Garden Of Time by J.G. Ballard. I really liked that story and I want to talk about it, but today I’ll be talking about something else– my visit to a bookstore yesterday.
I saw this bookstore on bookstagram, it’s very nice and aestheticy. So I’ve been wanting to visit it for a long time. Yesterday, I just jokingly asked my brother if he’d drive me there, totally expecting him to roll his eyes and say no. But he said, if you pay for the petrol then why not? And so we went.
Even though both my brother and I grew up reading books, he doesn’t read much these days. And in fact, he never was as obsessed with books as I was. So I was very happy when he came into the store with me.
The bookstore was very nice, it had a nice ‘bookish’ ambience, although the collection in my opinion could be better. Still, it was nice because the two of us are like polar opposites, so we don’t really share any interests, except for books, to whatever extent.Â
Growing up, we both loved the annual winter book fair in our town. We’d visit pretty much everyday and check out books together. We haven’t been going to the bookfair for years, it doesn’t seem to hold that charm anymore. So, yesterday as we went around the bookstore checking out the books we used to read in our childhood, it felt very nice. And what I loved the most was that my brother actually enjoyed his time there. It made me think, anyone who has ever loved books at any point in their life, can never really get over that love for books.Â
I got myself two books, The Outsider and The Rebel by Albert Camus. My brother didn’t want to get any since he doesn’t read anymore. But I couldn’t not get him one. So, I offered to get him The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd. He hasn’t read any Agatha Christie, he has watched the recent Murder On The Orient Express movie and didn’t really like it. But, he read the first page and found it interesting. He was like okay, she knows how to create intrigue right from the beginning. And I was like bro, she literally is Agatha Christie. So he agreed to get it and said he’d try to finish it in five years. Thus we both got our books, took some nice photos, enjoyed the weather and that was it.
The thing is, if things go well, my brother will be leaving for his PhD this year. I’m currently staying at home but I don’t know how long I will be. Either way, it’s time my brother and I go our separate ways in life. So to me, yesterday evening was one of those moments where as I’m living it, I already know it’s going to become a precious memory for life. I’m super happy we had that time together.
What about you? Do you have a sibling? Do they read? Don’t forget to let me know.

This is such an adorable anecdote. My older brother also reads and we kind of have similar taste in books, a lot of classics and literary fiction, but he doesn't read every day and is not as dependent on books as I am.
