Hello! How is your weekend going? It’s starting to get a little cold, I can tell we’re approaching November.
Let me start this week’s newsletter with a question: do you love freebies? I definitely do. And as someone who loves reading, free books are the ultimate object of all my desires. Now, of course it works because I mainly read classic literature. Classic authors haven’t been around for quite some time and thus the books are in the public domain. I don’t recommend pirating books of authors who are alive, and in need of a living. That’s not very ethical, so let’s not do that.
Now if you’re wondering where you can access these public domain classic books for free, I got you. Here’s my top three go-to sites for reading unlimited classic literature books without going even more broke.
Let's start with a website that holds a special place in my heart: Planet eBook. This was the site I used when I was just starting out with classic literature. They have a decent collection of well-known classics that you can download in PDF, ePub, or Mobi. The books have well-designed covers and a generous font size, with lots of white space that make for a very comfortable reading experience. However, the collection is a bit limited. But still, it's an excellent place to begin your classic literature journey.
It’s definitely the biggest name on my list. Project Gutenberg offers over 60,000 free ebooks, all available for download without costing you a dime. It literally is a haven for booklovers who are a little tight on their budget. Now, personally, I haven't used this site as much for reading, but I have a soft spot for Project Gutenberg because I volunteer here as a proofreader. It feels nice helping to preserve these timeless classics for future readers, just like someone did for me.
Last but certainly not least, let me introduce you to my personal favorite: Global Grey eBooks. It's so well-curated, you can browse books by categories or authors, there are collections and reading lists. There are over 2400 books available, featuring classics from both Western and Eastern literature, ready to be downloaded as PDF, ePub, Mobi or AZW3, or for reading online. And the icing on the cake—the books are simply gorgeous. A well-designed cover can make a book even more appealing, don't you agree?
Now, generally, for a lot of classics, if you just google the book name+PDF, you’ll find some digital copies. But I personally feel more comfortable downloading things from trusted sources. And if you’re anything like me, knowing about these sites will definitely be a game changer.
So, what about you? Is there a particular source you use to get your hands on some free classics? Don't forget to let me know.
