Gosh I love to read. I don't remember a time where I didn't. At the heart of it, reading has been a way for me to escape reality and not deal with anxiety. More recently, it has been a way for me to educate myself and be present in my body.

Yes, reading was definitely my escape mechanism, I just feel lucky it was reading instead of anything bad.

I’m in my 50s now and I used to read for entertainment, (fiction) when I was young. Then University destroyed this pleasure as well pop fiction is poorly written. So I started reading nothing but non fiction. I discovered I really love classical literature again in my 50s because well it’s very easy for myself . It’s like I have been training my whole life as they are very easy reads . I know the history, art , time period, philosophy, etc. I do need to find books that aren’t as heavy . I’m now worried about losing my creativity because regular fiction fosters creativity but again I don’t know of any really good modern fiction books except what’s classified as literature 😂 I even read genres in my 40s trying to figure out what I actually like science fiction books. (Classic of course) not my cup of tea but I absolutely understand the genre now . I’m stump at the moment what direction to go with but following people like you has truly helped. You inspired me to read Haruki Murakami which I really love. I never knew I loved fantasy. I do but just really well written like Haruki Murakami books are written. I love following your journey with books as well it’s really helpful and interesting.

Thank you so much for your kind words, it makes me very happy to know that you've started reading Murakami because of my posts!!! There are few feelings as beautiful as having someone else love the books you love.

And... yes, like literature is so vast and versatile. I personally have only started reading western classics (I'm counting Russian literature in that too) since 2022 and it has been such an incredible journey. I'm trying to read more non-fiction these days because the world is low key alarming me and I fear if I'm not educated enough on things, I'll fall victim to deliberate misinformation campaigns. Sometimes I find it a little frustrating how much there is to read which one person simply cannot read in a lifetime. But I also like the comfort of knowing I can never run out of good books to read.
