No, I agree. The narrator is very important. Just this week, I started listening to an audiobook of The Caste Of Otranto but the narration was kind of robotic, so I stopped listening.
I personally haven't watched The Shining or The Star Wars but I watch animes a lot, so I 100% agree that voice acting is just a different genre of acting.
