Those are some great reads. I've read A Tale of Two Cities years ago and should read it again. It was masterful. I'm glad to hear it was benign. Moments like that can be scary.

Thank you 😊

Yes, A Tale of Two Cities is a masterful piece of writing (and I feel very relevant in our current time), I'm definitely going to re-read it someday

The Bell Jar and The Idiot are both on my must-read list. My memory of Anna K. has dimmed, so I should go back and experience that one again. I like your picks here. If I had to list my own favorites from 2024, I suppose they would be Justine, Catch-22, and Mrs. Dalloway.

I haven't read any of the three books you mentioned but Mrs. Dalloway is on my list. I've been planning to read Woolf for a long time, I hope 2025 will be the year.

I'll check out the other two, thanks for the recommendation 😎

I'm going to have to add The Idiot to my reading list. I've already added Anna Karenina after reading another Substacker's thoughts/review on it. I remember reading A Tale of Two Cities (and other Dickens titles), as well as North and South, and I would also recommend Elizabeth Gaskell's Wives and Daughters - and Cranford if you haven't read those yet. A Happy New Year!

A little too late for saying happy new year, but I hope 2025 is kind to you 😊

Yes, I think they're both great works of literature. Also, yes I do plan to read the rest of Gaskell's writings, including these two and her biography of Charlotte Brontë

Thank you.

I forgot about Elizabeth Gaskell's biography of Charlotte Bronte. I'll have to check that out.

So do I, and it has only been a year since I've read it. I feel like it's a very relevant book in our current time

So happy you liked Anna Karenina and North and South, 2 of my favorite books 📚💖. Currently reading The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt, about 50% done, but The Wedding People by Alison Espach just came up on the list (or rather, my turn came up) so I'm thinking of switching and going back to Haidt later. 😍

Oh wow, I haven't read either of these two books but I hope you enjoyed your reads.

And I totally understand why Anna Karenina and North and South would be two of your favourites 😌
